MINUTES OF APRIL 16, 2008 MISSION CIRCLE BOARD
Attendees:
Tom Theisen, Don Brosnahan, Laura Wagner, Peter Godefroy, Kim Ballard, Jan Nelte, Leo O’Loughlin, Dale Burchby, John Cotter (guest)
Meeting opened at 7:00 pm with a prayer by Jan.
Meeting minutes of March 19, 2008 Board Meeting were approved with the updated information that Les Werling will not track automotive insurance and registration policies.
Victor Testado is performing a parish audit of MC’s donation program at Fr. Howard’s request.
The Treasurer’s report was approved.
General Business
John Cotter provided a detailed and well-received report on the tutoring program. Challenges he faces include keeping students occupied on the right tasks during hours of tutoring and having enough students available for the tutoring volunteers. MC passed a motion to provide La Clase Magica with approximately $400/year to provide incentives and rewards to students that actively participate in the program.
The brown van will either be turned over to the sisters if MC can get it across the border or will be donated to Father Joe’s organization. This should be resolved by the next Board meeting.
Catholic Mutual previously sent MC a letter indicating they were canceling coverage on the box truck. Upon further conversation between Tom and Catholic Mutual, it was determined that Monsignor Steve Callahan and Fr. Howard will discuss the issue and determine an appropriate course of action.
Les Werling is doing a good job of coordinating all the operations and maintenance issues for MC’s vehicle(s). The MC Secretary will track license/registration/insurance issues and Peter will investigate the appropriate way to make sure the MC mail is distributed in a timely manner.
Newsletter: The next Newsletter comes out around May 1 and will include information on the Corazon completion, work at National City, Fish Feast, work at Casa Eudes, and new instructors at Casa Eudes. MC determined it shall mail the next newsletter to the parish’s mailing list minus any parishioners/donors who previously indicated they did not want to receive newsletters.
Mission Circle will post monthly meeting minutes that are slightly redacted by excluding the current bank account amounts.
Peter Godefroy is embarking on updating the MC web site. He shall request additional text for the site as needed from other MC members.
The Corazon site is winding down as landscaping needs are finalized. There is additional work for the construction crews in National City for the Missionaries of Charity order.
Casa Eudes: Hot water heater project still coming along and there is a need for planning additional projects that could include a carport. The construction crews could provide assistance on these larger projects.
New Initiatives
There was no news on the VTC as Ken and Maggie were not present.
The emergency outreach program that Christina was evaluating will tie into an existing and established program in the local community.
The outreach program to Seniors has had marginal results as there has been very few requests for assistance, and those request have not fallen into the type of work that MC was hoping to provide to seniors.
There is confusion on the nutcracker project as there is a question regarding whether the nuts are actually pecans or something else.
The next Pot Luck event will be held at Tom’s house this summer, date to be determined.
Tom closed with a prayer.
Note: The May MC board meeting will be at 7:00 pm on May 14.
