ENDOWMENT FUND FOR THE GIRLS HOME
The Sisters of Our Lady of Charity provide care for homeless, abused or otherwise troubled girls and young women at Casa Eudes in Tijuana, Mexico. For over twenty-five years St. James Mission Circle has supported the Sisters in this compassionate work. During this period, the Sisters have provided shelter, love, and moral and spiritual guidance to well over a thousand girls. It is hard to imagine any more valuable work than that done by the Sisters nurturing these young women.
It is critical for us that we ensure that Casa Eudes endure in perpetuity because this work is so important. Through the generosity of many volunteers, donors, and supporters, in the short term the Home has been able to stay in operation. However, until recently there was no vehicle for permanent, long-term assistance.
To provide this continuing support, THE EUDIST HOME FOR GIRLS ENDOWMENT FUND was established. The principal in the fund will remain untouched, and the interest used to build the fund and support the work of the Sisters. The Fund’s assets grow primarily through donations. The Endowment Fund is owned and managed by the International Community Foundation and has been in existence in San Diego for over ten years.
We need to increase the fund’s balance to $1.5 million to provide a reliable income of about $100,000 a year to the Girls’ Home. While we do not expect to achieve this goal overnight, we have already accumulated over $595,000 since the inception of the fund. To help make the fund grow, here are some alternatives we would like you to consider:
- If you are able, make a substantial contribution. There are many tax-advantaged ways of contributing appreciated securities and real estate.
- Put the Endowment Fund in your will. Charitable contributions can ease the inheritance tax bite and your gift will help the girls for years to come.
- Establish a Charitable Remainder Trust with the Fund as beneficiary. You may find that you can keep more of your money by giving it away.
- If you already make regular donations to worthy causes, consider budgeting part for the Endowment Fund this year. It’s hard to find a more worthy cause.
- Contribute regularly to St. James Mission Circle, and designate your gift for the Endowment Fund.
